For the good, no actually, for the best! Yes, some lists can help you in living your best life.
Successful people do something different than the rest of the people. How do you think they are able to do that? Do you think they are born with talents and skills and all other resources? NO, they are not. They are normal people who understood some things better than the other people around them. One of the things which contributes to the success of these people is the presence of some healthy habits for which they worked hard.
Most of the successful people make habits which in turn make them what they are. Such is the power of habits because once formed, you no longer need to work super-hard to get something done. You tend to become habitual and it becomes easy to do the things which are needed to be successful. Staying organized and intentionally being able to design certain aspects of your day goes a long way in making you better than the rest. You must have heard of the term ‘to-do list,’ maybe you even make one for yourself each day or each week.
Today, we are going to talk about 3 lists, one of them being the to-do list and how they collectively give a positive and healthy direction to your day. And if your day is good, then we need not say that the rest of the week and month and years to follow will also be good. The inspiration to create these lists came from Jim Kwik, an International Speaker and Social Entrepreneur. We love to listen to his talks and speeches and would highly recommend you to check out his profile for more motivational ideas. So, let’s get started on the lists:
The most important of all lists: To- Do List
This one is important because you get to organize your goals into achievable mini-goals each day. Most of the successful people make this list either before sleeping so that they are ready for the next day, or they make it during the first few hours of the morning. It is recommended that you make a list of at least 3-5 things that you would be happy to accomplish and if you are able to segregate it into professional and personal zones, you get a day which is balanced. These things may not be the most epic or the biggest of your goals, just small things will also do. But, it is important that you do things which are a priority to you. A few examples are given below:
- Exercising in the morning
- Following a healthy diet
- Organizing your closet (these were the personal ones)
- Writing the project report
- Finish editing of the project at hand
- Meeting a potential new client
These are just a few random examples, your life and your needs will be different each day and so will be the face of your to-do list.
The ‘to-feel’ list
A major chunk of who we are is determined by what we feel throughout the day. We all have memories, we all have emotions and if we can choose to feel a certain way in advance, we are more likely to actually feel those things. When we are able to have a goal, a standard for ourselves as to how we would like to feel during the day, we would get more chances to feel those emotions itself. And logically, you would choose only the positive ones and day after day when you choose to be positive, negative elements of your life will reduce. Some of the feelings that you can choose to feel every day are:
- To feel loved
- To feel bewildered
- To feel gratitude
- To feel happiness and contentment
You would not know how these feelings will come to you, but when you make an intention to feel them, you would get the chances and you would be happy to feel those positive emotions.
The ‘to-be’ list
We are human BEINGS, who have to be something in order to have a meaningful existence on this Earth. We all are something for ourselves, for others in our family, for our friends, colleagues and other acquaintances. And if you can decide what you want to be that day purposefully, you would end up being exactly that. For example, you can decide that you want to be:
- A loving partner and/or parent
- A motivating leader
- An inspiring coach or a teacher
- A supportive friend
- A confident speaker
You get to choose how you would be when you deal with people around you and how you deal with yourself. If you choose to have all the positive qualities when you are dealing with your yourself and others, you would end up having a good day, quite by default, which is a good default in this case.
Intentionally choose what you want from your day…
The three lists discussed above when made, or read daily or even weekly, would give you the chance to design your life in advance. Obviously, not everything will go exactly as planned or penned, but if you keep your focus on the positive things, we can assure you that you would be able to achieve most of the things on those lists. And needless to say, if you are able to cross out things from those lists on a regular basis, you would see the changes that have happened in your life, by just being a little more organized and intentional about the way you lead your day, one day at a time and life overall.
