Matt Grodsky and Laura Scheel first met when they were both 3 years old. They went to the same preschool and as kids they loved to be with each other. So much so, that they did almost everything together and one of Matt’s earliest memories of his life even is the one in which he declared in front of his preschool class that someday he would marry Laura. And when the couple recently got married after 20 years, this is what Matt had to say about one of the reasons as to why he wanted to marry her. He said, “I decided to stay true to my preschool pledge.”

Though these two were thick as friends during childhood, but they lost touch after preschool until the time when reached their high school. After a gap of seven years, it was through a common friend that they met again, and withing two weeks of meeting at that time, they started dating each other.

Matt told The Way We Met, that they both dated each other through out high school, even when they went to different schools. These two lovebirds really loved each other, which is evident from the fact they remained true to each other even when they did college in different states, and remained committed in their long distance relationship.

Everything was perfect for the both of them, but Matt wanted more and so on 23rd May 2015, he decided to propose to her for marriage. And as their relationship had been quite unique, his proposal too was not going to be a simple one.

Matt took Laura to the place where they first met, their preschool in Phoenix, Arizona. He had come there with a picnic basket which was used by his father when he had proposed to his mother. Matt had filled it with some snacks, sparkling cider and a few wedding dress magazines. He took to the grass and dropped down on one knee to pop the question. While Matt was giving Laura the pitch for his marriage proposal, Matt’s brother was taking their pictures.

The couple eventually got married in the presence of family and friends on December 30, 2016 at the Arizona Historical Society. They told People that the best thing about their relationship is that they are just silly and they appreciate each other every day.

The thing Matt loves most about Laura is her smile and her desire to help those who are less fortunate ( she works with a non-profit which helps children who are in foster care). He says, “she is a force for good and it’s inspiring to be around her every day.” And Laura’s favorite thing about Matt is his humor. She says, “he always makes me happy and he is the most driven person I know. He is always moving forward.”

About their relationship, they said, “Having gone through a long distance relationship, you learn really quick how much the other person means to you and we value our time.”

Currently, the happy couple is enjoying their newly married status in their new house with their new puppy Kirby, and hope to someday start a family of their own. They say that for other people preschool was all about finding snacks and sleeping mats, but for them it was about finding their soulmates. And they surely did find their soulmates in each other.
